Repairs of Bonner Bridge Declared an Emergency by Governor

The governor of North Carolina declared repairs of Bonner Bridge an emergency. This will allow for a rapid response to all efforts for making  repairs to the Bonner Bridge. The emergency declaration also allows the state to seek federal assistance and assets and federal reimbursement for repair costs. The time it may take to repair the bridge and reopen is unknown but there is speculation that it may take weeks and even months to make the repairs. The Bonner Bridge is the only road access to Hatteras Island. NCDOT began operating an emergency ferry route between Stumpy Point on the NC mainland and Rodanthe on Hatteras Island.

The emergency ferry schedule is:

  • Departing from Stumpy Point: 3:30am, 5 a.m., 6:30,am 8:00am, 9:30am, 11:00am, 12:30 p.m., 2:00, 3:30, 5,:00  9:30 and 11:00pm
  • Departing from Rodanthe: midnight, 1:30am, 6;00a.m., 7:30am, 9:00am, 10:30am, Noon, 1:30 p.m., 3:00pm, 4:30pm, 6:00pm, and 7:30pm.
