Another Ocracoke Drowning This Summer

Another Ocracoke drowning has happened this summer. A 63-year-old man drowned on a Ocracoke beach yesterday. He drown on a beach near the Pony Pen beach access area off Highway 12. This happened in the late afternoon just after 5:00pm. It is reported he was trying to help another swimmer in the water that was in distress. The man was attempting to aid the other swimmer but both were apparently caught in a rip current. The first swimmer made it to shore safely but the man trying to help lost his life. Multiple agencies including the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Law Enforcement Rangers, Hyde County deputies, lifeguards, Ocracoke Emergency Medical Services, and the Ocracoke Fire Department responded to this emergency situation. Life saving measures were carried out but the man was not able to be revived and died.
