Boaters Rescued After Broken Mast on Catamaran Off NC Coast

Five boaters rescued from the Rain Maker by the US Coast Guard off the coast of North Carolina on Friday. Their 55-foot catamaran the Rain Maker broke a mast Friday afternoon when they were about 200 miles off the NC coast southeast of Cape Hatteras. The Coast Guard arrived by ship first but was unable to get near enough to the catamaran to remove the boaters. A Jayhawk helicopter arrived on scene late in the afternoon and all five of the boaters where lifted off the damaged vessel. After being removed the boaters were flown inland to the Dare County Regional Airport on Roanoke Island at the Outer Banks The broken mast on the Rain Maker out of New York was caused by high winds and seas. Reports are the boaters rescued  by the Coast Guard were in good condition.
